NGYF Spring Scholarship
National Guard Youth Foundation Competitive Scholarship Program
The National Guard Youth Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist graduates of the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Programs who plan to continue education in college, vocational school programs, or career training. Scholarships are offered four and two year increments for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice. This scholarship program is administered by the National Guard Youth Foundation. The mission of the National Guard Youth Foundation is to foster program awareness, advocate for the program goals and funding, and provide scholarships, training and workforce transition assistance to the graduates of the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, gender, disability, or national origin.
Applicants to the National Guard Youth Foundation Scholarship Program must be: • A current Cadet, graduate in the Post-Residential phase, or individuals who are no more than 6 months out of the Post-Residential phase of the ChalleNGe Program. (No more than 18 months from Program Graduation). • Have a clear understanding of their educational goals and can prove they are attainable. • Applying to or already accepted to an accredited college, university, technical, or trade school or program. • Interested in promoting and supporting the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program and the National Guard Youth Foundation upon reaching their goals. Applicants are eligible for the $3,000 scholarship if they are planning to attend a 2-year or vocational program. Applicants are eligible for the $5,000 scholarship if they are planning to attend at 4-year program.
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $5,000 or $3,000 award, based on their education track. Three recipients will be selected for the on-cycle programs for each of the scholarships mentioned, provided there are sufficient qualified applicants. One recipient will be selected from the off-cycle programs for each of the scholarships mentioned, provided there is a qualified applicant. Awards in the amount of $5,000 are renewable for four years. Awards in the amount of $3,000 are renewable for two years.
Interested students are responsible for submitting all materials to the Program Director on time. Applications must be submitted to the ChalleNGe program not later than May 1, 2015. Applicants are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information. Applications are evaluated on the information supplied; therefore, answer all questions as completely as possible. Incomplete applications will not be evaluated. All information received is considered confidential and is reviewed only by the National Guard Youth Foundation.
SELECTION OF RECIPIENTS
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and the ChalleNGe activities, honors, statement of goals and aspirations, and an outside appraisal. Selection of the recipient is made by the Scholarship Committee at the National Guard Youth Foundation, in a blind review process. All applicants agree to accept the decision of the National Guard Youth Foundation as final. Applicants will be notified by the end of June 2015. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.
PAYMENT OF SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships awarded in the amounts of $5,000 and $3,000 will be paid directly by the National Guard Youth Foundation to the recipient’s school of choice upon confirmation of acceptance and enrollment into a four or two year program. Scholarship funds must be used within one (1) year of receipt. A request for extension may be entertained by NGYF, if waiver form is complete and approved. OBLIGATIONS Recipients must sign and return the Terms of Acceptance upon receipt of the scholarship in order to receive funds. They are required by these terms to supply the National Guard Youth Foundation with complete transcripts when requested and to notify the National Guard Youth Foundation of any changes to address, school enrollment, or other relevant information. If the terms of the scholarship are broken by the scholarship recipient, the Foundation has the ability to revoke future funding of the scholarship.
The National Guard Youth Foundation reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and to make changes at any time.
